Peeling
Back the Spine: disc 1-2 |
||||||
01 intro:
on learning yoga - 3:17 |
Class Notes: The first class in the series is heavily inspired by Barbara’s “Art of Teaching Yoga” training course, and is a fantastic demonstration of what she calls “similar geometry” in a sequence of poses. It begins with a short talk on learning yoga in an intuitive fashion, and then follows with a brilliant sequence which shows how to free up the often frozen mid-spine by exploring the same basic backbend while standing, sitting, lying down, or in an inversion. Focus poses and explorations: similar geometry-- freeing the mid-spine and back bands-- handstand with backbend variation |

01 sitting
on heels - 6:07 |
Class Notes: In the second class, Barbara seamlessly combines anatomical principles and yoga asanas. It clearly demonstrates through practice what is most important for yoga students to deeply understand about human anatomy: the wisdom of immediate sensation, and the function and relationship of bones and muscles as they apply to movement. Focus poses and explorations: experiential anatomy-- hip-openers-- victor's lotus (also known as fire-log pose or double pigeon)-- utthita parsvakonasana |

01 opening
the shoulders - 12:51 |
Class Notes: In yoga practice as much as anywhere else, we can lock ourselves into unconscious patterns of movement that make our yoga practice stale. Here is the wonderfully intense third class in the series that includes many unusual movements intended to break up these stale patterns and freshen our approach to familiar poses. This is perhaps the most advanced level II/III (i.e. advanced intermediate) class we currently offer on CD, and skillfully guides the students through a challenging backbend section. Focus poses and explorations: freeing somatic patterns-- opening stuck areas in the shoulders-- challenging backbend sequence |
